Starting a blog is one of the best things I’ve ever decided to do.
1. It’s a way to connect with people, share your ideas, and help others.
2. It can help you live the life you want to live. Any blog has the potential to earn money. Yes. You can earn money by blogging.
Despite what the skeptics think, it’s totally possible to earn an income online. In fact, blogging has been the best way that I’ve earned money online. It’s definitely not a get rich quick scheme, it takes work to build a successful blog. And I’m here to be your blogging mentor to help you get to that point in your career.
In this post I will teach you how to setup a WordPress blog and why I recommend Bluehost.
If you want people to take you seriously in the blogging world you need to own your site. By paying for your site and hosting you have a lot more control over the appearance of your site and can customize it to make it uniquely yours.
If it’s your goal to have a profitable blog so you can live the life you want, work from home, make your own schedule, etc. I recommend starting up a WordPress blog and hosting it through Bluehost
I have been with Bluehost for over a year and I love them! And don’t just take my word for it, here are the facts:
- Bluehost has been one of the top recommended hosts for WordPress since 2005.
- They currently support more than 2 million websites around the world.
- They offer an anytime money-back guarantee.
- Bandwidth is unmetered.
- It’s easy to install plugins to customize your site so it looks and function the way you want.
- Great customer support, which is available 24/7. Through online chat, phone, or email.
Starting a blog shouldn’t be stressful! So I am here to guide you through the process to help you become a successful blogger. I’ll take you step by step on how to setup a WordPress blog through Bluehost.
Decide your focus and think of a domain name. Once you’ve thought of some ideas for your site name browse to Bluehost through my affiliate link: www.bluehost.com/track/brelemon/ you will be sent to a page that looks like the picture below. From there you will want to click on the green, “get started now” button.
Choose your plan.
The basic plan is if you are going to just have just one website. The plus plan is if you are going to have more than one website plus it’s not going to be limited like the basic plan. Prime of course is recommended and has a few more features than the plus plan. But decide which one best fits you and your needs.
Now that you’ve chosen your plan, you get to claim your domain! If you already have one then you can select the option on the right and proceed to step 4.
If you sign up with a new domain, then of course type it into the left side option and click next to see if it is available. If it’s not it will give you different options, or you can continue to brainstorm.
Enter in your information, and choose a package.
Please note that you will be paying the upfront cost for the 36 months or for whichever package you choose. Bluehost also offers a money back guarantee. So if you decide that it’s just not your thing then however long you have left you will get your money back for the remaining amount of time you have in your package.
There are also some other offers you can select. You don’t have to add them at this point in time and can add them later if you would like.
Enter in your payment information, agree to the terms of service, and click submit.
Next this page will pop up, just click create your password and go onto step 7.
Create a secure password.
Congrats! You’ve successfully registered with Bluehost! Proceed to login and make the blog of your dreams.
Once you are logged in you can start building your beautiful website. Just click on “Start Building”.
And now it’s time to customize your site. Browse through the different themes, some are free some you’ll have to pay for. I didn’t want to build my site from scratch and wanted more control over what I could do so I decided to pay for a theme. I recommend checking out the free themes first since you can download as many as you and can change them easily.
You can choose if you want guided help in setting up WordPress, or you can just go for it on your own.
Put in the name of your blog and a short description.
And Voila! This is what your Control panel will look like. I recommend going through the different links and getting used to where everything is.
Steps 1-13 were of course on how to get everything set up. But now I’d want to take it to the next level. I know when I started out I was so confused on everything. Where to start, what everything did and how to make the site do what I wanted. To say the least I felt overwhelmed with starting a blog.
So I have created a FREE ebook just for you! The image below is is a sneak peak into my WordPress for Beginner’s Guide. I’ll provide you with the tips and tricks I wish I would have known from the start. This way you don’t have to feel lost or alone in your blogging journey.
Here is a short outline of what you’ll get out of my ebook:
- How to navigate the backend of your site (super important if you want to have a successful site)!
